About Field & Floral

Hello! My name is Shawna Rude, and I am a sustainable floral designer and flower farmer here in Vancouver, Washington. I’ve been creating with flowers for 17 years now, and this experience has helped me understand the necessity of sustainable florist practices which then led me to create Field & Floral. Floral culture is notoriously wasteful, so I do what I can to work with nature instead of against it. I use environmentally friendly products, such as biodegradable parchment paper as the flower wrap, drip line irrigation as opposed to over head watering (uses less water!), naturally hand-dyed ribbon locally made, and I buy my seeds/tubers/bulbs from local sources—resulting in less fuel used—and more!

Each bouquet is free from:

  • Floral foam, a common ocean polluter

  • Dye

  • Preservatives

  • Commercial Ribbons (acetate and petroleum)

  • GMO

  • Pesticides

We’re going on year six of growing flowers, and are continually seeking out new methods in sustainability. Currently I find myself working with dried flowers more, and I’m so excited that the word is getting out that dried can be beautiful too! I find so much joy in sharing my love of flowers, I hope you love them as much as me!

Field & Floral is Clark County’s first certified green business! We are an industry leader in sustainable practices and continue to work hard to put the health of the environment and our community first.

Field & Floral is part of the Floret’s Farmer-Florist Collective. The Collective is a global, publicly-available map and directory of many of the flower farmers and floral designers who have participated in one of our workshops (Floret & Seasonal Bouquet Project) and currently grow flowers and/or offer floral design services. Although separated by many miles, we are all kindred spirits, united in our love of local, seasonal flowers.
